I recently published Teju Gurung

I went to see The hitchhikers guide to the galaxy last night, apart from the extreme hilarity, it raised a few interesting concepts.

1. The world Was built by a Planet Construction Company
2. The Meaning of life is 42
3. There is an earth MK 2 somewhere else in the galaxy in case Mk 1 is destroyed

Let’s look at these individually, Imagine for a moment that the planet earth wasn’t ‘created’ by the big bang, nor was it created by a higher being called ‘god’, but it was instead constructed by an intergalactic version of Jarvis PLC. Now forgive me for thinking this, but judging by the failures that our own construction companies have made…doesn’t that mean that the world is going to end because someone forgot to tighten up a bolt? You see, it all becomes clear now, the world isn’t going to end because of the second coming of Christ, the threat of thermo nuclear war between 2 super states or by a meteor, its going to end because of good old human error. What a thought.

The meaning of life is something that has been thought about for millennia, people far smarter than any average person have thought about it, and probably in some cases gone mad because of it. My opinion is that no one will ever find out the meaning of life, and in any case, how do you know that the answer you come up with is the correct one. It’s the same as the chicken and the egg scenario…which one really did come first. So to say the meaning of life is 42 is just hilarious, because who knows, the meaning of life may well be 42.

The idea of a second version of the earth just in case the first version gets destroyed is also funny, imagine that what happens in this earth is also mirrored on another planet that can replace earth if anything goes wrong.

If you haven’t seen The Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, then go and see it, the moment you see the dolphins singing “farewell and thanks for the fish” you know its going to be a great movie, added to that a manic depressive robot and you get one funny movie.
